Patient care and comfort during transport are of the utmost importance.
Medical Flight Pilots:
All medical flight pilots should retain a FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rating and a FAA First Class Medical certificate. Before acting as medical flight pilot in command of the aircraft, each of the pilots must attend aircraft specific flight school and pass a FAA Part 135 check ride. In addition to annual check rides, all pilots must pass regular line checks semi-annually.
Medical Flight Nurses and Paramedics:
You should ride with highly trained professionals in the medical industry. In addition to ER and ICU experience staff members should be trained in Flight Physiology and Air Transport medicine, along with the appropriate state licenses. Each medical flight staff member should have their current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification and extensive trauma experience.
